Ellis Simms has vowed to Coventry City fans that he’ll come back next season “better and stronger” after reflecting on his own personal form and the team’s collective efforts over the campaign.
The Sky Blues ’ centre-forward scored seven goals from 46 appearances in all competitions (six in the Championship and one in the Carabao Cup), compared to 19 from 53 appearances in his first year at the CBS Arena when he finished joint leading scorer with Haji Wright.
USA international Wright also dropped off from his opening season tally, hitting 12 this term from 35 appearances – all in the league – but sat out four months in the middle of the campaign with an ankle ligament injury.

Second highest scorer was attacking midfielder Jack Rudoni with ten from 50 showings, all in the league/play-offs while Brandon Thomas-Asante scored six (four in the league and two in the League Cup) in his first year at the club.
Winger Ephron Mason-Clark and midfielder Victor Torp also got six – all of their goals coming in the league – while Mason-Clark also missed chunk of the seasons due to injury, limited to 34 appearances in all but enjoying outstanding form under Frank Lampard. Tatsuhiro Sakamoto, meanwhile, scored four from 47.
Simms made another slow start to his own season, scoring just three times before the turn of the year before a flurry of four in six games across January/February but failing to find the net in his last remaining 13 matches and ending the season as an unused sub.
Taking to instagram, the 24-year-old addressed the Sky Blue Army, saying: “Thank you all for the support throughout the season. It never goes unnoticed. As a team, we fell short of our main objective, and that’s tough to take. But we’ll regroup, reset, and come back next season with even more hunger.”
As for his personal form, he added: “On a personal level, I know I didn’t consistently reach the standards I set for myself. That only adds to the motivation to return better and stronger.”
