Portsmouth interested in striking Hull City transfer agreement for £4.5m forward
Portsmouth are eyeing up a sensational reunion with former loanee Abu Kamara this summer, less than 12 months after he signed for Hull City.
It has been all change once more in East Yorkshire when it comes to a new manager, with Sergej Jakirovic the latest to be handed the reins at the MKM Stadium by Tigers owner Acun Ilicali following the surprise sacking of previous head coach Ruben Selles.
No fewer than 15 new players arrived at City last summer, and given their lowly Championship finish in 2024-25, there’s likely to be further squad churn to come under the new manager, and that could mean an exit for Kamara, who didn’t do a lot to impress in his debut season with the club – one particular divisional rival would be happy to take advantage however.
Portsmouth plotting Hull City, Abu Kamara transfer raid
According to a report from the Hull Daily Mail as part of a transfer round-up, Portsmouth would “love” to re-unite with Kamara this summer if City are willing to part company with the 21-year-old.
The left-footed forward is of course highly-revered among the fanbase of the south coast club thanks to his loan stint during the 2023-24 season, which provided him the platform to secure his £4.5 million transfer from Norwich City to Hull on deadline day in August 2024.

Operating primarily as a right-winger for Pompey under head coach John Mousinho, Kamara scored eight League One goals and also notched 10 assists as they stormed to the third tier title, but their chances of him returning last summer were always slim as Norwich were expected to hand him a chance within the first-team.
However, after two Championship cameos and an outing in the EFL Cup, Norwich sold Kamara to Hull in a 7-figure deal after he handed in a transfer request 10 days before the deadline – despite the fact the Canaries had no intention of selling the forward at the time.

Kamara endured a somewhat difficult first year at Hull, but he did end the season with five league goals and three assists from his 36 appearances for the Tigers, and it remains to be seen if Jakirovic wants him around for the 2025-26 season.
Hull’s pursuit of Algerian winger Adil Boulbina though – whilst they’re set to miss out on him as he readies himself for Qatari outfit Al-Duhail – suggests they’re in the market for a fresh face or two out wide, and that could push Kamara down the pecking order when the likes of Liam Millar and Mohamed Belloumi have fully recovered from their respective knee injury setbacks.
There were some difficult moments for Kamara in his debut season at City, including being wheeled out in a press conference by then-manager Selles after receiving backlash over an Instagram comment towards former Portsmouth team-mate Paddy Lane, but he started to show signs of life in the second half of the season.
