Sheffield United and Coventry City in transfer battle for 12-goal striker
Sheffield United and Coventry City are among the clubs tracking Preston’s Emil Riis, with the striker set to be a free agent in a matter of weeks.
The Danish striker joined North End in 2020 from Randers, and he has had a mixed time of things in English football over the past five years.
The 2024/25 campaign was Riis’ second most productive in the Championship since his arrival, as he found the net 12 times for Preston in what was a tough season for the club on the whole.

With his contract expiring, there are major doubts about Riis’ future, and it seems he is ready to take the next step in his career away from Deepdale.
And, there’s plenty of interest in the striker, with Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph revealing that the Blades and the Sky Blues could both offer Riis a contract ahead of the new season.
“Sheffield United & Coventry City are among a number of Championship clubs keen on striker Emil Riis Jakobsen. The 26yo is out of contract soon & it’s understood he’d prefer to join a club with ambitions to gain promotion to the Premier League.”
Emil Riis would be a low-risk move for Sheffield United or Coventry City
It’s no surprise to see that there is interest in Riis, as all clubs are searching for potential bargains in the transfer window, and you have to say that he falls into that category due to his contract status.
Some will look at his goal record and be underwhelmed, which is fair enough, as he has only hit double figures twice in five seasons, but that doesn’t tell the whole story.
Firstly, he has had bad luck on the injury front in that period, and Riis is a physical striker who offers a lot to the team with the way he plays. He can be a decent focal point, he will bring others into the game, and he will occupy defenders.
When you add in that he has Championship experience, Riis is a player who will become a good squad option for the likes of Coventry or Sheffield United.
FOOTBALL – Coventry City defender Joel Latibeaudiere called up by Jamaica for World Cup qualifiers
COVENTRY City defender Joel Latibeaudiere has been called up to the Jamaica squad for the country’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
The 25-year-old has earned a place in Steve McClaren’s squad for games against British Virgin Islands and Guatemala.
Jamaica travel to British Virgin Islands on Saturday, June 7 with kick-off at 8pm.
The Reggae Boyz then host Guatemala at midnight on Wednesday, June 11.
Jamaica currently sit second in their CONCACAF second round 2026 World Cup qualifying group.
The Reggae Boyz won both of their first two qualifying matches against Dominican Republic and Dominica respectively.
Former Coventry midfielder Kasey Palmer has also been included in the squad.
Latibeaudiere made 33 appearances for the Sky Blues last season.
FOOTBALL – Champions League contenders send scouts to watch Coventry City’s Jack Rudoni
A PREMIER League club competing for a place in next season’s Champions League have sent scouts to watch Coventry City midfielder Jack Rudoni.
According to the Daily Mail’s chief football reporter Craig Hope, Newcastle United have shown an interest in the 23-year-old.
Rudoni enjoyed a stunning first season with the Sky Blues following his summer move from Huddersfield Town.
He scored 10 goals and assisted 12 more as Coventry just missed out on a place in the Championship play-off final.
The midfielder scored City’s equaliser in the first leg of their Championship play-off semi-final against Sunderland.
And he also netted twice on the final day of the season to secure Coventry’s place in the play-offs.
His performances have now attracted the interest of Carabao Cup winners Newcastle.
Eddie Howe’s side are also chasing a coveted Champions League place with the Toon fourth in the Premier League table.
The Magpies know a final day victory against Everton at St James’ Park this weekend would guarantee Champions League football next season.
Newcastle reportedly sent scouts to watch Rudoni in action against rivals Sunderland in the play-offs.
And the Toon are also believed to have had scouts present at the Coventry Building Society Arena on the final day of the Championship season.
Rudoni excelled for City following the arrival of Frank Lampard as head coach in November.
He scored eight goals and assisted nine more following Lampard’s appointment.
This included a run of six games where he either scored or assisted a goal in February/March.
Coventry will be no doubt keen to keep Rudoni at the club who has three years remaining on his contract.
