Everton jet off for their pre-season tour of the United States at the end of the month.

David Moyes will be pushing further signings through the door before the plane takes off for the Summer Series.

In recent statements from the club, Moyes has demanded more new signings at Everton, given the number of players to depart.

Everton have the backing of their owners in the market as the club undergoes a big transformation both on and off the pitch.

On Tuesday, Everton secured the signing of Mark Travers as their new backup goalkeeper, ticking off a necessary requirement.

However, there is one summer target that Everton may now have to wait a little longer to get their hands on.

Moyes is keen to sign a new full-back this summer, with Everton lacking strength in depth on both sides of the pitch.

Nathan Patterson played at right-back on Tuesday night against Accrington Stanley, but it is Jake O’Brien who has earned the starting spot.

According to Wednesday’s edition of Record, Everton have been informed they would have to wait until next month to sign Georgios Vagiannidis.

Panathinaikos are keen to keep the right-back around for their Champions League Qualifiers against Rangers.

Everton have held advanced negotiations for Vagiannidis, but they face further Premier League competition and interest from Sporting CP.

The Toffees have retained Michael Keane to a new contract, but Moyes is still awaiting his first new defender to land at Finch Farm.

There could even be a debate that the right-back spot is up for grabs on Merseyside this summer.

Jake O’Brien could return to centre-back this season

Although Jake O’Brien impressed at Everton last season when he played as a right-back under Moyes, it is not his natural position.

The Ireland international is a solid defender, but he does have his natural restraints on the attacking side of the ball.

It has been suggested by Moyes that O’Brien will return to centre-back over the coming months.

James Tarkowski enjoyed another consistent season, but there will be one eye on the future with Jarrad Branthwaite securing his future at the club.

A compromise may have to be made, but Everton certainly need reinforcements at full-back.
