Aston Villa ‘agree’ seven-figure transfer deal ahead of second tier club with loan plan set out
Aston Villa are in the market for some new faces this summer. They are preparing for the start of the new 2025/26 Premier League season. Their aim is to get Champions League football back to Villa Park after falling just short in the last campaign.
Unai Emery has been in charge of the Midlands outfit since 2022 and has done an impressive job over the last three years, having previously had spells with the likes of PSG, Arsenal and Villarreal. The Spaniard has the chance to freshen up his ranks with some reinforcements over the coming weeks. He also has the opportunity to let some players head out the exit door as well if needed.
Aston Villa agree Modou Keba Cisse deal
Aston Villa have agreed a deal worth £4.3million for LASK defender Modou Keba Cisse, according to The Athletic. The prospect will be loaned back out to the Austrian Bundesliga outfit for next term. He will officially link up with his proposed new team in 2026.
Cisse, 19, is under contract with his current club until next year. Therefore, they risk losing him for free in under 12 months’ time if they don’t sell him now or in January, assuming he doesn’t pen an extension anytime soon. He is a centre-back by trade but can also step up into midfield if needed.
The teenager started his career with spells at Be Sport and Real Avila before joining LASK in 2024. He has since risen into the first-team set-up of the Austrian side and has become a regular. The youngster played 13 league games last season and chipped in with one goal from the back. He has been linked with Troyes in Ligue 2 recently, as per OneFootball.
Aston Villa’s next shrewd addition?
Aston Villa could see Cisse as someone to boost their defensive department down the line. His return to LASK will give him the platform to get plenty more experience under his belt. He should then move to England next year with more confidence and ability.
Villa’s recruitment has been shrewd since Emery took over. Journalist Guillem Balague has shared his insight into why, as per BBC Sport: “He has always endeavoured to bring in and play the type of players that possessed the necessary characteristics and shared his vision as to how the game should be played.
“He has sold his vision of this future Aston Villa to the fans and has had to educate them in his ideas, showing them that the success they can achieve should come along with the implementation of a cultured, measured passing game and not merely one that relies on the playing of a non-stop 100mph box-to-box game.”
Emery said last year that he wants to win a trophy: “I don’t want to waste my time here, that is my message. You can’t waste your time here. My objective here is to keep the same level we have now, Champions League and add more to be contenders for titles. This is the message, we love football, we love our work and we want to be successful.”
