Luton Town goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski has been sold to Charlton Athletic for an undisclosed fee.

The 32-year-old Belgian goalkeeper has signed a three year contract to join Charlton, who were promoted after winning the League One play-offs in May.

Kaminski moves after two years at Kenilworth Road, having joined Luton in 2023 from Blackburn Rovers after they won promotion to the Premier League.

In his time with the club, Kaminski made 85 appearances in all competitions, missing just one league game in his two seasons in Bedfordshire.

Among his accolades at Luton included winning the Premier League Save of the Month Award in November 2023 for a fine double stop in a win over Crystal Palace, with that save also later shortlisted for the Premier League’s Save of the Season award.

In a social media post saying goodbye, Kaminski thanked everyone at Luton for their time with him.

He said, “Time to say goodbye to a club that will always have a place in my heart.

“These past two seasons have been full of challengers. There were tough moments, no doubt, but also memories I’ll carry with me forever. Through it all, what stood out was the incredible support of the fans.

“Even when things didn’t go our way, your passion never faded. You kept believing, kept pushing, kept showing up. That’s what makes this club special and I truly believe Luton Town will be back where it belongs very soon.

“Thank you to my teammates, the staff and everyone behind the scenes. Until next time, Hatters.”

Charlton Manager Nathan Jones told the Addicks’ website that he felt Kaminski was an excellent upgrade in the goalkeeper position.

He said, “I’m very pleased because it’s a wonderful signing. Thomas was outstanding for Luton in the Premier League and he was outstanding last season in the Championship as well. For me, he’s one of the best goalkeepers in the division. We wanted to strengthen on all levels and improve every department, and we feel that the signing of Thomas does that.”

Blackburn Rovers’ sell-on clause as Charlton sign Kaminski

Charlton Athletic have signed former Rovers goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski following their promotion to the Championship.

Kaminski has put pen to paper over a three-year deal at the Valley as the Addicks prepare for life back in the second tier.

The Belgian left Ewood Park in the summer of 2023 to join Luton Town, playing Premier League football in 2023/24 although he couldn’t help the Hatters avoid relegation.

The shot stopper was a regular starter for Luton again last term but it proved to be a tough campaign at Kenilworth Road under Rob Edwards and then Matt Bloomfield, resulting in relegation on the final day.

Kaminski is now set to play Championship football again next season, becoming Charlton’s second signing of the summer after Sonny Carey.

It is understood that Rovers would have been entitled to 10 per cent of Luton’s profit on the goalkeeper’s next move.

However, reports in the capital claim the figure is around the £1million mark which is lower than the Hatters paid to land Kaminski in 2023 and, therefore, there is no profit from the deal.

Charlton boss Nathan Jones is excited to work with the 32-year-old and believes he is “one of the best goalkeepers in the division”.

Kaminski added: “I’m really excited to join the club. When I first spoke to the gaffer he came across very, very determined and very passionate about what we wants to do and what he’s going to do. That was a big, big motivating factor for me to come to Charlton.”
