Alasdair Gold reveals why Christian Norgaard is unlikely to join Thomas Frank at Tottenham
Brentford midfielder Christian Norgaard has emerged as a target for Tottenham this summer
Tottenham Hotspur have a new head coach the dugout, announcing the appointment of Thomas Frank as Ange Postecoglou’s successor on Thursday evening.
The Dane has left Brentford after seven years to join Spurs on a three-year contract, replacing Ange Postecoglou after he was sacked at the start of June. Three staff members from Brentford—Justin Cochrane, Chris Haslam and Joe Newton—have also followed Thomas Frank to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Set-piece coach Andreas Georgson, who only left Manchester United two weeks ago, has also become part of the 51-year-old’s coaching staff.
As Frank has become the new Spurs boss, a few Brentford stars have unsurprisingly been linked with a move to N17. Spurs have shown an interest in signing the Bees’ assist-king of last season, Mikkel Damsgaard, who is valued in the range of €40-50 million. Defensive midfielder Christian Norgaard has also emerged as a target for Tottenham of late.
Christian Norgaard has been a consistent performer for Brentford since arriving from Fiorentina back in 2019. He had a strong 2024/25 campaign, netting five goals and four assists in 34 Premier League appearances, whilst impressing with his tireless, all-action performances in the engine room.
Tottenham have been on the lookout for a strong defensive midfielder, and Norgaard is an option that appears to have been discussed internally at the club with Frank. However, the reason has now emerged as to why the Brentford star is seen unlikely to join Frank’s forces in North London. According to Football London journalist Alasdair Gold, the 31-year-old signing a new contract with the Bees has made a move away from the club unlikely this summer.
The Denmark international was due to become a free agent at the end of the season but he signed a two-year extension back in March to prolong his stay at the Gtech Community Stadium until 2027 (Transfermarkt).
“It’s a shame (Christian) Norgaard signed a new contract in March, because I think Frank will want a number six,” Alasdair Gold told the Last Word On Spurs.
“I think that’s what he’ll really want for his system and he loves, loves Norgaard, he sees him as a lynchpin midfielder but also a real captain, a proper leader type in that dressing room.
“31, he’s not the age profile Spurs would go for either, but I think he was quite an underrated player last season in the Premier League. But I just wonder whether that new contract messes up that idea.

Norgaard is a cultured, experienced defensive midfielder whose work has often gone unnoticed at Brentford in the Premier League. He has often been the glue that helps the Bees tick over, thanks to his physicality, running power and ball-winning skills. The Danish midfielder also chipped in with goals this past season, demonstrating he also has a different side to his game as well.
