Mateo Joseph sends clear message to Leeds United amid Birmingham City links
Leeds United striker Mateo Joseph has been linked with a move to Birmingham City
Mateo Joseph will outline his desire for more minutes when he returns to Leeds United following the European Under-21 Championships.
The Birmingham City-linked forward is currently leading the line for Spain out in Slovakia and will come up against with Jay Stansfield’s England this evening.
Joseph, 21, has been the subject of plenty of transfer interest in the last 12 months and he has admirers within the corridors of power at St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park, but Real Betis appear to be the frontrunners for his signature.
Betis saw a £10million offer rejected by Leeds at the end of the winter transfer window and are expected to test the waters again this summer.
Asked about Betis’s interest, Joseph told AS: “There are many players in the national team I’d like to play with. It would mean I’m at a great club. We’ll see what happens.
“For now, I’m focused on the European Championship, and my goal next year is to participate more.”
He did, however, admit: “There’s no place like Spain. Of course, at some point I’d love to play in La Liga again.”
Joseph played 39 games in the Championship last season as Leeds clinched the title and a return to the Premier League.
But Daniel Farke primarily used Joseph as a substitute, meaning he only played 1,271 Championship minutes.
The striker will hold talks with Leeds officials over his future once Spain’s Euros campaign concludes.
Joseph added: “The lack of clarity about my future doesn’t affect me. I’m very focused on the tournament and will have to talk to Leeds, with whom I haven’t yet. Then whatever happens will happen, which is certainly the best thing for everyone. I’ll be ready for the opportunities I get, wherever they may be.”
