Torbjørn Heggem features in impressive Norway win over Italy

Torbjørn Heggem played a key role at the back as Norway recorded a famous win over Italy in FIFA World Cup qualifying on Friday night.

The Baggies defender completed 71 minutes of his nation’s incredibly impressive 3-0 victory at the Ullevaal Stadion in Oslo.

Norway raced into a three-goal lead at the break courtesy of strikes from Alexander Sorloth, Antonio Nusa and Erling Haaland.

Despite enjoying large spells of possession, Italy failed to break Heggem’s team down in the second period.

The result leaves Norway top of Group I with nine points from their three matches played. They head to Estonia for their fourth fixture on Monday night.

Congratulations, Torbjørn!

Despite the fact Albion had a dismal end to their season – it is not surprising speculation has begun around some of their key players.

Albion underperformed in the end – but there were shining lights in the campaign.

Torbjorn Heggem was a revelation after arriving for just £500,000 last summer. Tom Fellows went from strength to strength.

Then Isaac Price arrived and made a huge difference in the second half of the season.
So despite the fact the season fell off a cliff, it was going to be no surprise if bigger clubs did come circling.

Heggem, 26, joined the Baggies last summer. He penned a three-year deal running until June 2027 and has been a hit.

As per TuttoMercatoWeb, Bologna have been watching him on international duty with Norway over recent times. The Serie A side finished 9th in the table in this past campaign.

After moving to the Hawthorns 12 months ago, he told the club website: “It feels really great to be here. English football has always been the biggest thing in Norway. To play in England is a dream for every boy growing up there and hopefully I will achieve that now I have signed. I’m really looking forward to that.

“It’s all happened pretty quickly, and I’m really happy about that. I haven’t thought too much about it, I just felt it was the right thing to do from the very start. I feel like the head coach is very ambitious. He was telling me about his training ideas and the way he wants to coach.”

Heggem spent a year at IF Brommapojkarna in the Allsvenskan before the Baggies swooped in. The Trondheim-born man started out at Rosenborg and rose up through their academy. He then spent a couple of years at Sandnes Ulf and played 65 matches altogether.

What now for West Brom and Torbjørn Heggem?

West Brom will hope that they can keep hold of Heggem for as long as possible. It remains to be seen at this stage whether Bologna will lodge an official approach for the WBA ace.

The Baggies are looking forward to their new era under the guidance of Ryan Mason. The 33-year-old has been picked as their replacement for Tony Mowbray and has penned a three-year deal.

They have the chance to bring in some new signings over the next couple of months. Mason also has the opportunity to let some players head out the exit door to clear up more space and funds to pave the way for reinforcements. Grady Diangana, Semi Ajayi and John Swift have already left.
