The future of Newcastle United defender Tino Livramento has been called into question after recent interest from Premier League giants Manchester City.

It is a move that very few fans would be happy to see this summer, especially after how well he played in the latter stages of the season.

Tino Livramento proved to Newcastle United fans that he is not just a promising young right-back. Following a season-ending injury to Lewis Hall, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe moved Livramento to left-back ahead of players like Matt Targett – the results were sensational.

Livramento performed like he had played in that position for his whole life. He settled into his new role with ease and even helped the Magpies win the Carabao Cup from there.

Livramento’s form has caught Manchester City’s eye, and they are now interested in doing a deal for him. However, Newcastle fans are certain that Livramento is not for sale and that he will remain on Tyneside past this summer.

With Man City fans desperate to sign Livramento, the 22-year-old has now broken his silence after the transfer links emerged.

Despite only playing in the position for the latter stages of the season, Jacob Murphy called Livramento the best left-back in the world, a testament to Howe and Livramento’s brilliant form.

Livramento was England Under-21s’ best player against the Czech Republic on Thursday night, coincidentally, it was as a left-back.

In an interview with the Chronicle, Livramento commented on his arrival at Newcastle amid the speculation of his exit.

“I knew that they [Newcastle] were a big club when I joined. They were already in the Champions League the summer when I arrived,” he said.

“So even that was a massive thing for me. To win anything for this club has been a massive achievement, and long may it continue.

“You see what it means to them. They come to the games, but across the city, you see that everybody here supports the club, and it was great to bring a cup home for them.”

Tino Livramento is expected to return to right-back with Newcastle United
While left-back has been his position for the last few months, it is not his most natural role, so Howe will be eager to see him return to right-back soon.

Hall is expected back in Newcastle’s first team by the start of next season after his ankle injury kept him out from the beginning of March. Recovery is thought to have gone well for the young defender who will be eager to kick on and make up for lost time.

In the same Chronicle interview, Livramento was asked about the competition for places at Newcastle, with veteran Kieran Trippier also a contender for a place in the starting XI.

“100% it doesn’t bother me. Wherever I play I will give my all for the team.

“I know that if we are defensively solid, we have the quality to hurt teams at the other end.”

Livramento is expected to start again for England’s Under-21s when they take on Germany in Slovakia on Wednesday.
