It may feel all a bit slow in terms of new signings but it’s an exciting time for Coventry City. Frank Lampard led the Sky Blues to the play-offs and although they fell at the penultimate hurdle there’s plenty of optimism around that the club can go again and go one better next season.
There will have to be a huge effort to achieve that feat, not least adding quality in key areas of the pitch to ensure the team is even stronger and better equipped for the rigours of the 2025/26 campaign. There’s a steely determination for the club to keep improving and evolving to achieve Doug King’s promotion ambitions.
Key to that, of course, is recruitment. Forward planning is a prerequisite for any recruitment department, but how involved is Frank Lampard in that process?
“Very involved in it because as I keep saying, it’s a big collective and if we want to improve, you know, a lot of responsibility will go on me,” he told CoventryLive last month.
“After a good performance, and particularly after a bad performance, you ask yourself, what are you doing? And I have to take responsibility for that, so I also have responsibility where I see where we want to go.
“And it’s a collective, it’s not all my responsibility, clearly. I respect the owner of the club, Doug, the investment he’s made already and where we’re trying to go. But whilst I’m here, my input is there and we have lots of conversations.”
Asked if he’s excited about the summer transfer window, the 46-year-old head coach said: “I’ve considered where we are right at this minute and how can we improve in different areas. How can we be more balanced as a squad and step forward, and we chat about that a lot.”

Coventry City have made the unprecedented decision to launch a season ticket waiting list ahead of Frank Lampard’s first full season as manager.
Lampard guided the Sky Blues into the Championship play-offs in 2024/25, collecting 52 points from his 29 games at the wheel, and optimism is sky high that he can take the club onwards and upwards.
Almost 10,000 season tickets were sold in the first three days they went on the market, forcing the club to introduce a new plan as demand outstripped supply. New buyers can now join a waiting list, ready to be contacted if and when seats at the CBS Arena become available.
Existing season ticket holders have until Thursday, June 19, to secure their place for next term, move to a new seat or upgrade to hospitality. Prices for adult season tickets start at £440 while they are available at £250 for under-18s, £125 for under-14s and £400 for over-65s and supporters aged from 18 to 21.
There is a cap of 24,000 season tickets for 2025/26 in a stadium which has a capacity of 32,609.
EFL rules mean away clubs receive an allocation of at least 2,000 tickets and Coventry made 3,000 available to opposition clubs in 2024/25. Clubs also keep a certain amount of tickets available for non-season ticket holders.
Coventry sold more than 20,000 season tickets last term and they had an average attendance of 27,647 – the highest since 1969/70 at Highfield Road, finishing sixth in the top flight under Noel Cantwell.
