Exclusive: Leicester City backed to seal “fantastic” Danny Rohl appointment

Leicester City are still expected to sack manager Ruud Van Nistelrooy following their relegation to the second-tier – with pre-season underway in just over 4 weeks.

As per Football Insider, Van Nistelrooy has not been dismissed due to finances – as it’s only a delay, he’s still likely to be gone before the start of the season.

Sheffield Wednesday manager, Danny Rohl, who has impressed during his time at Hillsbrough – could “definitely take Leicester forward” according to Sky Sports Pundit Lee Hendrie.

Rohl’s rise through the coaching ranks has been nothing short of impressive – beginning at RB Leipzig before spells as assistant manager at Southampton, Bayern Munich, and the German national team.

Speaking exclusively to FLW, former England international Hendrie thinks Danny Rohl should seriously consider the Leicester City job if the East Midlands outfit come calling.

Hendrie told FLW, “Yes, I mean there’s no doubt, there’s no doubt, because Leicester will be among the favourites this season as well.

“Danny Rohl is a very good manager, he could be one that is definitely on the radar on a lot of teams and could definitely take Leicester forward.

“I know he’s been linked with so many jobs but Leicester, obviously being relegated, they’re going to be one of the prime favourites to get promoted and I think if he was the fit for them he’d do a fantastic job.”

There’s no doubt the 36-year-old has done an impressive job with the Owls, saving the club from relegation when he arrived – before guiding them to a respectable 12th in his first full season.

Earning plaudits for his ability to develop players whilst playing attractive football, he’d already attracted previous interest from Southampton – who thought the compensation needed to pay him was too expensive.

Hendrie’s assessment of Leicester as “prime favourites” for promotion suggests the general expectation surrounding the Foxes’ Championship campaign.

If the Foxes were to sack Van Nistelrooy, appointing the right manager will be vital to any ambitions they may have next season – and Rohl’s proven ability to work with limited resources could make him an attractive candidate for the job.

For Rohl – the opportunity to manage Leicester could represent a chance to compete for immediate promotion to the top flight – whilst being financially backed by his employer – which perhaps won’t be happening at Wednesday anytime soon.

Brutal Dejphon Chansiri verdict delivered amid Sheffield Wednesday’s ongoing financial issues

Chris Turner has launched a scathing attack on Dejphon Chansiri, describing the Sheffield Wednesday owner as the “worst” in the club’s history.

A week has passed since the Owls were placed under a registration embargo by the English Football League for their failure to pay wages in full or on time in March and May. Chansiri was also charged with “causing the club to be in breach of EFL Regulations despite his commitment to fund their cash requirements”. It is thought many players and non-football employees have yet to be paid their salaries for May.

Wednesday have not commented on the issue in nine days and The Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) have branded the delay in staff receiving their salaries “unacceptable”. A PFA statement read: “Continued and ongoing delays to player and staff wages are unacceptable and need to be addressed without further delay.

“Ultimately players and staff are like any other group of employees – they should be able to expect their wages to be paid on time and for the terms of their contracts to be met by their employers.

“When that does not happen it has a significant impact on the professional and personal lives of players, staff, and their families.

“The uncertainty it causes is made worse when there appears to be a lack of clear communication regarding the reason these issues are occurring and when payments can be expected.”

Former Wednesday goalkeeper and manager Turner spoke passionately amid the club’s ongoing off-the-field problems at a Sheffield Wednesday Supporters Trust event last night. He said: “I’m here as a Wednesday fan, not an ex player or manager. I’m really, really concerned about what’s happening at our club.

“When you go on to the football side of it, we haven’t got a team for next season, it looks like as though we have not got a manager and we have sold one of the best young players (Caelan-Kole Cadamarteri) in the club. That can be good or bad, hopefully it’s not going to give him money to rally round for the next two or three months and pay HMRC and a few wages.
