Stoke City player explains why he visited another club – Rules out summer transfer…
Viktor Johansson left Rotherham United for Stoke City last summer and was the Potters’ first choice goalkeeper this season.
The Sweden international kept 15 clean sheets and conceded 64 goals from 49 games for Stoke City, who finished 18th in the Championship table.
With the conclusion of Stoke City’s 2024/25 season, the 26-year-old has already returned to his country.
According to Sportbladet, Johansson and Coventry City’s Oliver Dovin have been training with Hammarby Fotboll, wearing their colours.
The Stoke City stopper was at the Swedish club’s academy between 2012 and 2015 and has now visited his former club to train with them.
“I keep going. I’m doing some training. I have been running now for two, three days. So, I’ll drive as long as I can, I thought. It’s fun to come down here and run with incredibly talented goalkeepers and goalkeeper coaches,” he said.
The former Rotherham United man belieces he has benefited from training with Hammarby No.1 Warner Hahn.
“Yes, of course. You learn every day. Incredibly talented goalkeeper. He has shown that now season after season. So of course I learn,” Johansson explained.
His contract at the English club lasts until 2027 and he made it clear he has no plans of returning to his former club in the summer window.
“Yes, it’s only temporary. But it’s like being home. I have spent an incredible number of hours here in my youth years so it’s fun to be here. Incredibly grateful that the club lets me train and keep going,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Swede said Stoke City failed to fulfil their goal of finishing in the top half of the Championship table this season. The stopper added he and his teammates want to improve their league standings next season.
“No, we are disappointed as a whole. It wasn’t really where we wanted to be, but we wanted to be in the top half. So, of course we are disappointed. We are all incredibly eager to start a new season and do better,” the Stoke City goalkeeper said.
