Carlton Morris update after Swans inquiry rumours.
There has been the odd rumour that Carlton Morris the twenty nine year old Luton forward is of interest to Swansea City. The exclusive which Twitter account ‘Only Swans’ made public yesterday led us to confirm that they were in no way wholly inaccurate.
So, we did some digging.
The big question is how long does the playing contract of Carlton Morris run for. He made a commitment and signed an extension to his contract in 2023 which Luton wouldn’t post any details on. All we have been told is that ‘long term’ means his contract isn’t up this summer. However, we have also been able to ascertain that it is almost a certainty that he will have a form of relegation clause written into his agreement. No surprise there. The question is when Luton Town were promoted to the Premier league for the 2023/24 season when Carlton signed his new contract would they have thought that two years later they would be in the old third division with Cardiff City ? Surely though clubs are aware that anything can happen in football ? Premier League contracts tend to have more emphasis on success of course, so what gives Carlton Morris a platform for rumoured interest ?
We couldn’t find anything to link Carlton to the Swans officially, and that comes from our own research. All we do know is that his potential availability is agent driven to an extent. We do have a good source with Luton Town knowledge who tells us that they wouldn’t be at all surprised if every player is up for grabs. And Carlton is one of those players who will most certainly attract attention with the Hatters taking a big drop in income now they are relegated.
We are also at a time in the summer that clubs are keeping their powder dry on their own targets. Information at the Swans is being far better protected now than they have been since Brett Cravatt and Jason Cohen have arrived on the board in influential roles. Now, if a player does come out as newsworthy and he is a Swans target they will certainly be a lot closer to finding the leak than at any time over the past five years or so. This has also been firmly addressed by Sporting Director, Richard Montague. Numerous people have left the club this year and a far more collective secrecy is more than evident.
However, we have gained the trust of many people over the last five years since our inception. When hints are forthcoming, generally externally, we don’t ask the question who, and at times prefer not to be given any clues or names. We have our own trusted avenues to explore away from the club as we have done for today’s feature on Morris. The upshot on him is that his stats are causing problems in the minds of clubs who may favour him. The thing with stats is they don’t always tell the whole tale with the likes of Carlton Morris. He is a great example. The chaos he can cause and his aggression at set pieces off the ball can’t always be quantified. His verbals to opposition players and attitude which can affect their play can never be measured. And he has all that. He is a dangerman, and because of this you will never see precise stats on how sides set up to combat his style.
For players like Carlton it’s all about goals scored and assists, fitness levels and the costs to employ him. Not how much he can put the fear of god into defenders with his commitment and distraction tactics.
The key stats are of course simple and not that impressive.
Now is the time of the closed season where clubs make a lot of inquiries as to the availability of a player, be that via an agent which could be the reasoning here, or direct to clubs. There’s no harm in that. Preparing for the transfer rush and gaining players interest is as crucial as getting the deal over the line. Very few of these inquiries turn into a move, we have been told it’s something like one in twenty as a benchmark. The only response of any note we have is that ‘it isn’t out of the question’ – ‘you would expect Swansea as much as any Championship club to feed off the remnants of a second relegation, you did that with Zǎn Vipotnik last season’
We are putting this down to agent driven, someone just doing their job for their client who possibly shouldn’t be at the level Luton are at next season. As we all know now this is how they operate, and any transfer with the agents take on the percentages at stake is big money. Even for Carlton Morris.
We can’t see it being anything more than that.
